Showing our team members how much they are appreciated is one of the highest priorities at Haselden Construction. One way we do this is through Sense of Belonging events like the car show and BBQ we hold each year. These events give Haselden team members a chance to unwind, spend time with each other, and enjoy some well-deserved relaxation.
2018 Car Show & BBQ
Car show is really a misnomer – it was open to all vehicles with a motor! In fact, the winning entry was actually a go-kart! This year we had a great showing for entries including classic cars, motorcycles, and the winning go-kart! In years past, we’ve even had boats and snowmobiles!
And don’t forget the food! This year we went old school and grilled up some brats and hamburgers! Of course there was also potato salad, chips, and beverages … a perfect Friday afternoon feast!
About the Winner
Senior Safety Manager Travis Weber had the winning entry. Travis’s sons, Ashton (10) and Kellan (6), wanted a go-kart, and instead of buying one, they decided to hand build one together. They built a miniature version of a “rat rod” using a Radio Flyer wagon and a Tru Temper wheel barrow for the body. Powered by a Briggs and Stratton 6.5hp OHV engine, they used riding lawnmower tires and wheels in the rear. A hydraulic disk brake is operated by a hand lever, which is fabricated from an old hammer handle. Their hard work paid off and their vehicle took home first place by popular vote!
Fun & Games
It wouldn’t be the annual car show without the dunk tank and corn hole! This year we took votes on who everyone wanted to see in the dunk tank and we put some fresh faces in there: Vice President Derek Oliver, Preconstruction Manager Dave Marsh, and Regional Director Ken Baumgartner! There was a bit of a fashion contest this year between Dave Marsh and Ken Baumgartner, and we’re still not sure who won. Dave was sporting a swim cap, goggles, and arm floaties, but Ken wore his crazy, psychedelic cat shirt and captain’s hat! Can’t wait to see who gets voted into the dunk tank next year!
Homes For Our Troops
We also had some very special guests in attendance at our BBQ this year. Representatives from Homes For Our Troops joined us so we could present them with a check for the proceeds from our 5th Annual Clay Shoot. This was a banner year for the shoot, raising over $112,000 for the organization! We couldn’t be more proud to be part of such an exemplary organization.
