The worlds of workplace safety and hiring could be colliding in troubling ways in Wyoming, according to this recent report by Wyoming Public Media.
Waves of Latino construction workers have headed to that state because construction is booming. At the same time, national industry figures show Latinos lead the nation in workplace accidents, and that Wyoming has one of the country’s worst track records for workplace fatalities.
The construction industry must continue to address language barriers, adjust workplace safety training and develop entirely new ways of ensuring Latino workers are equipped to do their jobs effectively and out of harm’s way, says Rick Reubelt, Haselden’s director of environmental health and safety.
