When it comes to schools, we still picture them as being organized into those long and windowless corridors, with 900-square-foot classrooms, which is the traditional image of a school. However, this architecture was designed for an instructional model that is outdated nowadays, the available space being quite limited and noisy for students who work collaboratively.
Consequently, new school buildings built by builders in Colorado look a bit different now.
In determining the capacity of a school, you must first take into account the socio-economic motivation for its construction, as well as the estimation of the number of students that would attend courses in the new building, which will determine the size of the classrooms.
A new school building should be college and career-ready, by incorporating small-group collaboration areas, personalized instruction areas, project-oriented learning areas and student learning areas. Naturally, this architecture requires a bit more space than a traditional school, but they provide that much-needed flexibility in the instructional space. For example, while a few students work on a class project in their main classroom, the teacher can take a handful of students into a different area, for more personalized instruction.
Each area has to be large and roomy enough to accommodate not just students and teachers, but also specific learning equipment.
