The Fitzsimons Village Infrastructure Project extended from the new Children’s Hospital office building construction and pedestrian bridge located at Colfax Avenue and Ursula Street to I-225 along 14th Avenue.
The entire infrastructure installation was approximately 1.2 miles in length. The construction consisted of 1,836 linear feet of 72” x 84” Box Culvert, 105 linear feet of 72” RCP, 720 linear feet of 60” RCP and 12 Box Based Manholes. Coordination of this work was essential to the success of the project due to the demolition and reconstruction of the existing residential 14th Avenue roadway and the intersection at Potomac Street and 14th Avenue. New construction of 14th Avenue, Ursula Street, Potomac Street and Colfax Avenue included asphalt, curb & gutter, sidewalks and signal interchanges.
The addition of a new outfall structure which was installed through an existing Xcel Energy electrical substation and existing shopping mall made for a very precise coordination effort. In the end, we maintained schedule and, with the cooperation of the City of Aurora and Xcel Energy, the project was a huge success!
