Haselden, in joint venture with Barton Malow, constructed a new 200,000-square-foot science building with a connecting corridor to the existing science building on the Auraria campus in the vibrant heart of downtown Denver.
The new building includes classrooms, science laboratories, a loading dock, freight elevator and chemical-storage areas. Renovations were also completed to the existing 118,000-square-foot science building, including MEP upgrades and window replacements throughout. All three floors were renovated in phases with minimum disruption to existing campus operations.
Haselden used its extensive knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems to reduce the construction budget and enable the owner to achieve a higher LEED certification. Ideas included alternate equipment manufacturers, deleting of unnecessary controls not required for building function, combining systems and alternate materials.
