13 Industry Leaders Partner for the Revitalization of the Industrial Sciences Building at Colorado State University
May 30, 2008, Fort Collins, CO– The Industrial Sciences Building in the Department of Construction Management at Colorado SU Fort Collins is undergoing a major renovation. Thirteen total general contracting and electrical and mechanical contracting firms are investing in the project as donors of money, services and in-kind products. The $4.2 million project is being funded 100% by donations. The fundraising effort was spearheaded by Ed Haselden, President of Haselden Construction and a member of the Board of Governors of the CSU System. This collaboration is the solution to raise funds in support of higher education. These donations will provide improved academic learning spaces that support the built industry and show construction management students how projects can be completed in a collaborative environment.
This approach is a first of its kind multi-joint venture of general contractors including Haselden Construction, Saunders Construction, PCL Construction, Hensel Phelps Construction, G.E. Johnson, and Gerald H. Phipps. All 6 firms are involved jointly in the preconstruction effort. Haselden Construction is providing the project manager and project engineer. Saunders Construction’s superintendent will be on site overseeing construction activities. H+L Architecture designed the new center which will allow for students to work in collaborative teams and integrated industry models, including concept, design, project nmanagement, estimating, marketing and presentation with the intention students will be industry-ready prior to their internships or graduation.
Built in 1883, the Industrial Sciences Building is a historic landmark. Construction is scheduled to commence June 2008, with some areas expected to be available to students by end of 2008, into early 2009. Renovations will include a modern preconstruction laboratory, classrooms, lecture hall, study lounge, technology center and public spaces. Several of the renovated spaces will bear the names of the donor assigned to renovating that specific space.
Competing construction firms are working side by side for the benefit of students and faculty at Colorado State University.
